Resource Description: In January 2014, Indonesia launched an ambitious national health insurance program (Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional, or JKN for short), the cornerstone of its commitment to achieve universal health coverage (UHC) by 2019. Against this background of rapid and transformational change, USAID is collaborating with the Government of Indonesia to promote sustainable financing for service delivery, health systems strengthening, and robust private sector engagement.
To inform this collaboration, USAID commissioned the Health Finance and Governance (HFG) project to conduct a rapid analytic review and assessment of Indonesia’s health system opportunities and gaps. The review provided an opportunity for government, private sector, and development partner stakeholders to weigh in on the nation’s highest-priority health sector challenges as Indonesia embarks on numerous systems reforms.
