Cape Town Symposium Highlights People-Centered Health Systems

African mothers wait with their infants to receive health services.The HFG Project is looking forward to the Third Global Symposium on Health Systems Research, which will take place in Cape Town, South Africa later this month. The theme ‒ the science and practice of people-centered health systems‒will address “the challenge of how to make health systems more responsive to the needs of individuals, families and communities.”

HFG’s presence at the Symposium includes participation in satellite sessions, presentations of HFG’s work, and posters of country-specific activities.  Highlights are below. For the full schedule, please visit Health Systems Global’s Symposium Program page.

HFG Satellite Sessions:

On Monday, September 29, HFG’s Daniela Rodriguez will present a satellite session with Joseph Naimoli, Health Systems Research Advisor for USAID’s Office of Health Systems, Enhancing patient-centered care: translating knowledge into action for improved CHW performance.

Catherine Connor and Jeremy Kanthor will participate in The Third Global Governance for Health Roundtable, September 29-30th.  The HFG Project is collaborating with the Leadership, Management & Governance (LMG) Project and the Health Policy Project (HPP) on the Roundtable. Dr. Elaine Baruwa will moderate a satellite session, The Bridge from Research to Action, on Monday, September 29. This session is co-hosted by the Translating Evidence into Action Thematic Working Group (TWG) and Abt Associates. The Translating Evidence into Action TWG is one of eight thematic working groups approved by the HSG Board. Co-chaired by HFG’s Kate Stillman and Heather Cogswell, the TWG will focus on the translation of health systems evidence into action through knowledge exchange of best practices, lessons learned, and practical guidance and tools. The aim is to help reduce the gap between health systems knowledge and policy action. Learn more about the Translating Evidence into Action TWG and their  presence at the Symposium.
